Design for the studio?

MessageAuthor

It only looks sterile because none of the bays are patched and people aren't crammed around the table with session notes and take sheets. In other words, it has room to work. As soon as that room is populated, you will find out that it is well designed for traffic, monitoring and it even looks like it was professionally acoustically treated. However that is not a "cozy" studio. Based on the size of the window, I would say that you could fit a nice size orchestra or big band in the other room(s). Designing a professional grade studio has a lot more requirements, not fewer. And, I completely disagree with the idea that no one makes studios like that anymore.

...and, to be precise, this is a control room - not the studio - or the "whole" studio. Look at the studios at Abbey Road. Now THOSE are studios - and yes, they each have control rooms. There are also mixing/mastering and post-production rooms. But are they studios? Perhaps the term is overloaded.

I Like it... But if not having a big console and going ITB. I much prefer this other (Bob Katz's) route. Not the ornamentation. I mean the concept. Big confortable coach, MCU on hand and the slanted racks at the sides of the couch (instead of in front). PS, of course wireless keyboard and mouse and something in front the couch to put the feet on! I had my former room arranged this way. Now I'm in a way smaller flat, so again the usual thing. A big desk and a chair....
