how to avoid overview calculation in AIFF sessions

MessageAuthor

Hi, is there a way to keep PT from calculation overviews over and over again from AVID sessions? I thought this was a "feature" in 5.1.3 but having switched to 6.9.2cs1 I was disappointed to find this is still the case. In OS9 I used to convert all files to SD2 to avoid this. Is there a way around this? frank.

Are you sure that you don't have the folder as "Read-only"? In SD2 files the overview is stored in the resource fork (travelling with the files), but for AIFF and BWF files ProTools calculates a waveform cache file that you can sometimes see in the root folder of the session; I don't know where else this file may appear.

Frank you're wrong! WAV and AIFF files' overviews are stored inside the audio files in their 'ovwf' chunk. Audio files imported from OMF's are read only (because they're shared resources). Either consolidate over the files or use Save Session Copy In... and create copies of the files in the new location. Rail

The overview created by Pro Tools and stored in the 'ovwf' chunk is proprietary to Pro Tools -- SoundMiner won't build a compatible overview. Create a new Pro Tools session and import the audio files into the new session -- an 'ovwf' chunk should be created in the files since they're not being imported from an OMF file -- close the session then reopen the original session.
