No replies? I'll try and clarify. Question 1: I am editing the relative volumes of multiple tracks at many points along the timeline. To make it possible to see numerous tracks at one, and thus "know what's coming", I put the volume envelope lanes in the media lanes while editing a different track's volume. Then back again to the envelope lane, to tweak a point....and back to media lane to edit a different track....etc. I can move the envelope's visibility from envelope lane to media lane: TCP/envelope button/R-click drop-down menu: "Show all visible track envelopes in media lanes/Show all visible track envelopes in envelope lanes" But this is slow. I would like to ssign a shortcut but cannot find those or similar actions in the Actions list or MMs. In the manual, I only find reference to the action in that menu. Question 2: Alternatively: it may be practical to edit the volume automation in the Media lane, but I am having difficulty with this. Is the time selection/loop inextricably related somehow to the envelope points?

Question 1 - Open the "Actions" list and type "toggle" into the filter.

Question 2: envelope point selection follows time selection ? Type 'follow' into the actions list filter.

Jeff - thank you. I had been searching using the wrong words. Fantastic to have the shortcut working! Witti, thank you. I don't think I want point selection to follow time selection. While editing, I'm playing back the loop (created with time selection - is that wrong?) But I only want to create, delete, or select and move 1 or a few points at a time, and not have them influenced by the time selection - ie they may move outside it, or I may move a point not in the time selection...I realise I do not know what "point selection follows time selection" actually means - can you help? Your replies are both much appreciated.

I think you should check the mouse modifier options in the preferences. Set them up to your liking. It will take some time to adapt them to 'your workflow', but it's worth the effort. The action 'Envelope point selection follows time selection' can be also found if you right click on the 'move envelope points with media items' toolbar icon.

Update- it seems that the time selection is difinitely preventing me selecting/deselecting points, so I have now made a shortcut to remove TS, and after making TS and linking to loop, am removing TS. So that is a great step forward :) My previous DAW only had one loop/time selection, and I really wanted a 2nd - so now I have it - ie both time selection and loop - but need to learn how its use is built into Reaper's actions.

Yes, I think that's what happened. Though I didn't, and still don't, understand how this particular option works, I am sure I had it checked off earlier; but since I was having trouble with env editing I tried some different options, must have checked this one and didn't keep track of it...in fact forgot it existed. Now I'll plug on and find out what my remaining difficulties are. btw, although I am working on a little project, it's something I had already done in Cubase Elements just before switching to Reaper, so I am in no hurry with it, my main purpose being to learn and set up Reaper.
