MIDI take issue

MessageAuthor

Hi, I was recording a MIDI drum track from my Alesis kit into Reaper and the first few takes were captured fine in a single track. Then I saved the project and had to restart Reaper because my laptop shutdown due to lack of battery. When I reopened the Reaper project my original takes were in place and I continued, on the same track, to record more takes. All appeared OK but on opening the project today I can only select takes from my first session or the very last take of the second session, although I cannot view the MIDI notes/events for this last take or select/view any of the other takes from this second session. It is also possible to have 2 takes playing on the same track, one from the first session and the last take from the 2nd session at the same time, which I don't think is normally possible. One other strange thing is that none of the MIDI takes from the 2nd session are actually marked as takes, which all the takes from the 1st session are. Coincidentally the bass line that was being recorded at the same time also suffers from the same issue, although I could correct this by inserting the individual media files into the project i.e. creating my own 'takes' but on their own individual tracks. So question is how can I retrieve the MIDI data for my 2nd drum session and/or separate the info into individual takes or even tracks? Explode tracks creates the necessary tracks expected but all the 2nd session tracks are then empty. I could record the drums again but would lose the coherence of playing with the bass player, which was the reason for doing it in the first place so I would rather avoid this if possible. I have attached a cut-down version of the project in case this helps. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Simon

Not too sure what's going on. If you saved the project before restarting then all should be OK. It's working OK here, so, yes, a small project with the problem clips in it would help.

Could the battery going have glitched the project save?

RE: MIDI take issue

Moving the sessions to a new track seemed to give me the takes back so I'm wondering if the problem was just that the takes were 'hidden' by empty takes from the previous session? Don't think there was a problem with the save & battery giving-up as I'd done this a few minutes before it all stopped working. Did have to restart my USB interface though, which caused the initial 'empty' takes. Maybe that's responsible. Anyway, all is OK now, just have to pick the bones out of all the takes now, which is fun ;o) Cheers for the speedy response, Simon
